When the Fire Burns
It’s always easy in the sunlight.
When laughter fills the air,
when love feels soft and simple,
when promises are whispered in warm tones.
Anyone can stand by you when the skies are blue.
But when the fire comes…
when life cracks open and everything feels heavy,
when the ground shakes beneath your feet…
that’s when hearts are revealed.
That’s when you see who truly loves you,
and who only loved the comfort of your glow.
The one who swore they were forever
suddenly grows cold.
The one who once never left your side
slips quietly into the shadows.
Hands that once held tight
pull away when the flames rise.
It’s strange, isn’t it,
how lips that said “I love you”
can turn silent when you cry for help.
How someone can vanish in darkness,
only to return when the light shines again.
They come back with stories, excuses,
tender words dressed as apologies.
But that isn’t love.
That is manipulation.
That is selfishness.
That is evil hiding behind soft eyes and promises.
Because love… real love…
does not vanish when the storm breaks.
Love does not abandon you in the fire.
Love sacrifices.
Love stays.
Love chooses to stand in the ashes beside you,
even when it costs everything.
Sometimes, the cruelest twist:
a stranger becomes the one who stays.
Not the husband, not the wife,
not the partner who swore they’d be your safe place.
But a stranger,
someone with no history and no obligation,
who chooses to be present.
They sit with you when no one else will,
offering kindness when those who claimed to love you are gone.
And suddenly, that stranger becomes more of “your person”
than anyone else ever was.
After fire like this, you change.
You come out stronger, yes…
but cautious.
So cautious that sometimes you just want to be by yourself.
Because after betrayal,
after disappointment,
you feel like the only person you can trust is you.
You close yourself off,
afraid to lean on anyone,
afraid to open up again.
Even with a partner nearby,
the fear lingers:
the fear of being left in the flames once more.
So you retreat.
You give things to yourself.
You choose solitude over risk.
Because at least when you stand alone,
you know you won’t betray yourself.
And maybe that’s the lesson…
to see people for who they really are,
to stop romanticizing empty promises,
to stop excusing disappearing acts,
to know, without doubt,
who your people are and who they are not.
So remember this truth:
The fire does not just test you.
It reveals them.
It separates the voices that only sang in sunlight
from the hearts willing to bleed with you in the storm.
When the flames die down,
when the rain finally falls,
when the light breaks through…
you will know your people.
You will know who truly belongs.
Life surprises you still.
Because the one who becomes “your person”
might not be the one who shared your bed,
or the one who made promises.
It might be the stranger,
the unexpected hand that reached for you
when the world burned down.
The fire shows the truth.
It strips away illusions, exposes betrayal,
but also reveals unexpected grace.
Hold close the ones who stayed.
And as for the rest…
leave them in the ashes they chose.
